With the creation of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Tehuantepec Isthmus, the Federal Government carries out essential projects that benefit and develop the potential of the Isthmus regions in the short term.

Recently the B / M Onego Río from Gijón, Spain arrived at pier 6 of the Port of Coatzacoalcos to disembark the first 3,000 tons of rails, each rail is 24.5 meters long and weighs 1.3 tons, this material will be occupied for the modernization works of the railway line between Medias Aguas, Veracruz and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca.

The Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway (FIT) rehabilitation project consists of five sections that run from Medias Aguas, Veracruz; Salina Cruz, Oaxaca; with a length of approximately 206 kms., for which 8, 300 tons of additional rails will be required, which would serve for said rehabilitation, with the purpose of reducing transfer times and making the services that would be offered by this important means of communication more efficient.

Last June on a Presidential visit, Lic. Andrés Manuel López Obrador, supervised the modernization and expansion of the Port of Coatzacoalcos, which is part, together with the Port of Salina Cruz and the Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway, of the Logistics Platform which coordinates the Interoceanic Corridor of the Tehuantepec Isthmus.
