Extraordinary Meeting of the Subcommittee on Civil Protection and Security of the Port of Coatzacoalcos

This afternoon, the Harbor Master of Coatzacoalcos summoned all the members of the Subcommittee on Civil Protection and Security of the Port of Coatzacoalcos, on the occasion of the Grace meteorological event, which could impact our port facility.

In a remote conference, Vice Admiral Sergio Antonio Islas Sánchez Captain of the Port, announced the trajectory of the meteorological phenomenon; indicated that early today it made landfall south of Tulum, Quintana Roo, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and it is expected that during the course of the day, Grace will degrade to a tropical storm and by Thursday night, it will enter in the Gulf of Mexico where it could become a category one hurricane again, causing strong convective activity, very heavy rainfall intervals (50 to 75 mm) with intense punctual storms (75 to 150 mm) and thunderstorms, strong wind gusts in its vicinity.

For 24 hours, August 20 at 07:00 hrs. “R” (20/1200 utc): at latitude 20.6 ° north and longitude 94.0 ° west, 147 nm (274 km) northeast of Veracruz, Ver., And 187 nm (346 km) east of Tuxpan, Ver. , with maximum sustained winds of 65 knots and gusts of 80 knots with waves of 14 to 20 feet in its vicinity (category one hurricane, over the Gulf of Mexico).

By 36 hours, August 20 at 7:00 p.m. “R” (21/0000 utc): at latitude 20.4 ° north and longitude 96.3 ° west, 74 nm (136 km) northeast of Veracruz, Ver., And 65 nm (122 km) southeast of Tuxpan, see. , with maximum sustained winds of 75 knots and gusts of 90 knots with waves of 16 to 20 feet in its vicinity (category one hurricane, over the Gulf of Mexico).

For this reason, the Port of Coatzacoalcos, after evaluating the docks, would attend to the request for shelter for at least 7 vessels, confirming berthing for 3 of them; 2 in the Coatzacoalcos port area, 1 in the Laguna de Pajaritos port area, at the moment there are 17 boats in the anchorage area.

Recommendations:
• On the high seas, islands and maritime oil facilities, they must attend to navigation instructions and Civil Protection.
• Preventions and regulatory precautions for the coastal population, due to flooding of rivers and floods and landslides in low-lying areas.
• Know the location of temporary shelters.
• Be prepared for a possible evacuation.
